Notes: Chunky grey songbird w. heavy black bill. Male
has pale orange throat & dark, not orange, in lores (compare
Red-lored Whistler). Female
greyish, paler under the tail (as opposed to yellow in
Golden Whistler), with much
shorter bill & darker ventral area than
Grey Shrike-thrush.
Female underparts sometimes streaked pale grey. Voice includes a
pulsating repeated "chowp-chowp-….". Cryptic. Low in dry forest
w. dense understory & bushland across semi-arid southern Aus.
