Notes: Smaller than Sharp-
tailed Sandpiper but larger than Red-necked Stint.
White rump, upper- tail coverts form bold U-shaped band above dark tail, obvious in flight.
Long wings project beyond tip of tail. Short black legs, slightly drooped black bill. In
breeding plumage has rufous tinged cap, ear-coverts; underparts white w. distinct black
streaking on breast & onto flanks. Non-breeding mainly grey above, white below. Breeds
on wet tundra of N America, migrates to S America.
