Notes: Large kingfisher with variable plumage. Nominate ssp sordidus & ssp colcloughi are larger
than Sacred Kingfisher, have longer, heavier bill and an obvious white loral spot that does not
extend back over the eye; underparts cleaner white. Ssp pilbara smaller, more similar to Sacred.
Cf small Forest Kingfisher. Occur exclusively among mangroves, adjacent mudflats & rock-shelves.
