Notes: Widespread kingfisher w. a buff spot in front of the eye that can extend back over the eye
as a thin brow. Belly colour varies from buffy-orange to white. Female duller, greener, on wings &
rump. Juvenile duller, buff scaling on forehead & upperwing-coverts, dusky tips to feathers on
cheeks, collar, breast & flanks. Ssp vagans larger & duller (crown & mantle duskier), underparts
more yellowish buff than nominate sanctus. Ssp norfolkiensis similar or same as vagans.
