Orange-bellied Parrot

Kirk Point, Port Phillip Bay, Vic IMG_2275 20171226 - male: bright orange patch between legs.

Notes: Bright green & yellow w. blue wings & yellow lower belly w. a central bright orange patch,
yellowish throat, and thin frontal band which is bold blue in male, paler in female. The orange
patch in female on lower belly is smaller if present. Juvenile: pale bill & plumage, lacks blue on
face. Cf Blue-winged Parrot (olive-green), Rock Parrot (duller olive-green) & Elegant Parrot
(yellow-green, distinct yellow patch in front of eye). Feeds on the ground in saltmarsh, dunes.

Range from eBird^©(last 10 years) Breeds in SW Tas in summer; winters on S coast of Vic.
