Notes: Similar to New Holland Honeyeater but w. only one large fan-shaped white patch on side
of face, dark iris & wholly black chin & throat; lacks white 'beard'. Ssp gouldii white cheek patch
is differently shaped, narrowing towards rear, & extending almost to hindneck, cf nominate niger.
Juvenile duller, browner; gape yellow, bill brownish. Mostly in dense heath, swampy eucalypt
woodlands in coastal lowlands. In N Qld confined to high altitudes. Gregarious, noisy, conspicuous.
