Notes: Males are boldly patterned w. a black head, white throat,
& black collar, w. bright yellow underparts, olive upperparts, & a grey
tail broadly tipped black. Female plain grey above, paler grey below, w. buffy
belly. Similar to Golden Whistler. Male
occidentalis paler grey uppertail, female lower belly darker buff than
nominate fuliginosa. Immature: rufous in wings. Calls include a loud piercing
whistle w. a whip-like ending. Usually in wet & dry woodlands w. dense understory.
