Notes: Smallest honeyeater. Compact body, short tail
& relatively long down-curved black bill & dark brown iris.
Male: scarlet head (w. black lores), back, rump, throat, upper breast.
Female: brown above w. russet cast & to forehead, throat; pale
grey edging to wing feathers; yellow basal half or most of lower
mandible; yellow gape. Cf
Red-headed Honeyeater. Its natural habitat is forest in tropical
lowlands, where it forages mainly in the upper tree canopy.
