Notes: Adult breeding has dark cap and face covered in back-swept white plumes;
grey-brown upperparts, off-white underparts. Non-breeding lacks hoary head; dark
cap extends to just below the dark iris (cf Australasian Gebe). Feeds on invertebrates.
On large open waterbodies, both fresh and brackish, without dense weed cover.
