Parry Lagoons Nature Reserve, Wyndham, NE WA IMG_7778 20160722 - male on left, female on right

Notes: Large, dumpy, white head & body, bone/pink bill, pale eye. Black outer wings, chestnut
chestband, deep green speculum, legs & feet pale pink. Female: narrower chestband than male.
Juvenile: shadowy breast band, 'dirty' head & neck. Male give hoarse whistle, female responds
w. harsh rattle. Mostly coastal brackish water, estuaries, mudflats, mangroves. Breeding on
coastal rivers in late wet season.
