Notes: Olive brown above, paler below, w. grey crown & dark grey cheek patch edged in yellow
tuft; a thin purple line separates throat from ear coverts; entirely black bill. Ssp occidentalis
smaller, brighter, paler. Young birds have yellowish gape. Cf. Yellow-tufted Honeyeater.
Calls include loud squeaks & a rattling trill. Inhabits dry sclerophyll forest w. heath understory
(KI), sandplain heaths/shrublands (WA), mallee scrubs (SA).
