Notes: Large ground-dweller forages in leaf litter.
Wings and back boldly mottled, scalloped, barred. Black neck-tie.
Crest raised when alarmed. Solitary. Female slightly smaller & paler
than male. Large nest mound mostly built by male; central crater
temperature regulated mostly by male. In dry open forest & mallee,
growing on sandy or gravelly soils w. much leaf litter.
