Notes: Largest Australian heron. Stout black bill, yellow iris, plain grey-brown plumage.
Broad wings, long leg projection in ponderous flight. Breeding: silvery plumes on nape,
mantle & lower throat. Juvenile: browner, mottled on neck, upperparts. Voice: when breeding,
bellows, sometimes twice in succession. In tall mangroves lining tropical coastlines, estuaries.
