Mains Charging

Charging Camper Battery from 230V Mains

The first photo shows the camper inlets hatch with diesel and water fill points, and above those the socket for a 230V power lead. A constraint for the power lead is on the RH wall of the hatch. This supplies power to a Victron 15A battery charger. A special 15A caravan power extension cord is not needed since the mains current draw is low (less than 1A).

The Victron is configured to charge a 12V lithium battery and is set up and monitored on a mobile phone using a Bluetooth signal. The charger is able to wake up and then charge a flat ("sleeping") lithium battery.

The Victron charger is located under the camper LH seat and is wired to the inverter also located there. This means that the charger cannot charge the battery if the inverter is shut off using its isolation switch.
