covert-bar in upper wings which are broadly triangular w. straight trailing edge.
Black bill. Yellow webbed feet. Widespread, abundant Dec–Mar in S, Apr–Oct in N.
Ranges from Antarctic pack-ice (where breeds) to subtropics.
