Notes: Male in breeding plumage: bright-blue (ssp leuconotus)
or black (nominate ssp leucopterus,
ssp edouradi) body, black bill, & white
wings patches. Male non-breeding: like female, but dark
bill. Female smaller;
sandy-brown w. long light-blue tail, pinkish-brown bill. Juvenile: shorter tail,
pale base to bill.
Call a very fast trill. Eats mainly insects in heathland & open & arid scrubland in
the drier parts of Australia.
