Notes: Small. Metallic blue-black above, light grey below on the breast & belly; rusty on forehead, throat & upper breast; dark chevrons on undertail coverts. A long forked tail, w. a row of white spots. The much less common Barn Swallow has a dark chest band & is much paler below. Juvenile: duller, browner; rufous areas paler; tail shorter. Ssp carteri differs by larger bill, shorter tail. Those that live in E Aust. move to N in winter; Those that live in W Aust. are not migratory.
