Notes: Iridescent blue-black back & crown, brown
wings & tail, rufous forehead. Whitish mottled
rump. The
underparts are white, faintly streaked. Young birds are duller, browner,
w. pale fringes
to all wing feathers. Ssp neglecta smaller, w.
less rufous tinge. Cf smaller
Fairy Martin. Most in SE
migrate N to non-breeding grounds
(eg Tablelands) for winter. In variety of open-country habitats
near water, including built-up areas. Forages on the wing over & around
trees, & over water.
