Notes: Bright red face & bill. Uppertail coverts dull red w. large white spots. Olive breast &
flanks w. broad white spots. Female has reduced red on face. Juvenile has plain dull red
uppertail, black bill soon turning red. Ssp subclarescens very like ssp clarescens; nominate
ruficauda extinct. Grasslands, sedgelands, reedbeds along watercourses. Sedentary.
Locally common.
