Notes: Long-winged pelagic tern w. deeply forked tail, black-sooty above, white below. Black bill,
legs; white forehead. Ssp nubilosus is very similar to ssp serratus but slightly paler on underparts.
Non-breeding seldom seen in Aust. as wholly pelagic: mantle scaled by whitish fringes. Juvenile
head, breast & belly sooty-black, white scalloping on sooty upperparts. Feeds in flocks far
offshore. Island nester.
