Notes: Small, sprightly. Larger, longer bill than stints: no hind toe. Non-breeding: paler than
other similarly sized shorebirds. Breeding: rusty red tones on head & breast, fresh plumage is
scaled or spangled above by white tips to feathers. Migrant on ocean beaches. Breeds in High
Arctic. Small flocks run back and forth as if chasing the waves, seeking floundering prey.
