Notes: Small, sprightly migrant on ocean beaches. Larger; longer bill than stints.
No hind toe. Non-breeding: paler than other similarly sized shorebirds.
Breeding: rusty red tones on head & breast. Breeds in High Arctic.
Small flocks run back and forth as if chasing the waves, seeking floundering prey.
