Notes: Large black cockatoo; massive black crest overhangs heavy grey bill. Male: red tail panels.
Female smaller; spotted, tail yellow to orange, barred black. Nominate ssp banksii largest;
macrorhynchus large-billed, naso also has a rel. large bill; graptogyne smallest, lacks notch in
upper mandible; samueli generally smaller w. smaller bill than nominate banksii.Noisy,gregarious.
Common in N, SW in wide variety of habitats. Staple diet is seeds of eucalypts, also other plants.
