Notes: Largest Aust owl, w. yellow-orange eyes set in dark mask,
contrasting w. whiter forehead.
Underparts white w. blackish-brown chevrons.
Enormous yellow feet. Male is larger & stronger
than female. Only slightly
larger than Rufous Owl which has shorter tail.
Call a loud, slow,
penetrating double hoot whoo-hoo. Uncommon, sedentary.
In wet eucalypt forests, & some dry
forests w. adequate prey populations
(possums, gliders, large birds).
