Notes: Ssp macropus is sedentary across Australian. Dark upperparts, a full black cap that
extends below the eye & down to the upper mandible, & extensive barring on the underparts
& underwings. Female larger. Vagrant ssp japonensis has broad squared-off moustachial stripe,
a clean pale bib & large pale cheek patch. Ssp calidus also possible: pale & slender, narrow
pointed moustachial stripe w. pale forehead. See discussion here . Fast aerial hunter.
