Notes: Small, vocal w. an erectile crest. Pink lores small or
absent in nominate spp sanguinea.
Orbital-patch oval, pale blue-grey.
Ssp gymnopsis has wing & bill shorter, general coloration
redder;
westralensis similar to gymnopsis but separated by 1000 km;
normantoni smaller in all
dimensions. Very conspicuous. Often forms
large, noisy flocks (up to several thousand birds)
around water sources.
Roosts in trees, nests in hollows, primarily feeds on seeds on the ground.
