Notes: The smallest "true quail". In flight looks uniformly dark above. Male gorgeously attired, w.
a blue head & breast, deep cinnamon belly, & neat black-&-white throat markings. Female brown
w. a paler belly & a plain brown face; strongly barred flanks. Ssp variation is minor, largely clinal.
In very dense ground cover in damp & swampy sites, including grassland, fernland & heath.
