Notes: Smaller, slimmer than
Pacific Gull with smaller bill, no black tail band. Red on lower
mandible only.
White tail, narrow leading edge to wings, scapular crescents, window
on outer
primary. Juvenile dark chequered upperwing coverts.
Second-year much greyer above, streaking
on head & neck;
tail still black but by end of year has central white feathers.
Almost entirely
coastal, similar habitat to Pacific Gull.
