greater primary coverts. Usually diffuse
dark collar. Flight usually low
to water. Often in flocks, small to huge; peak Feb–Mar, Aug–Sep.
Breeds mountains of S NZ Aug–Apr, migrates to N coast WA. Waters
of continental shelf.
