Notes: Small. Distinct blackish M mark across spread wings; broad black tail band.
NB: no prominent mid-grey half collar. Diffuse grey neck sides extends to flanks, white body.
Ssp subantarctica slightly larger than nominate ssp turtur & are paler overall, w. shorter
stockier bill. Feeds by dancing lightly across surface, plunging. Nominate common off
SE Australia coast & breeds locally.
