 Notes: Slaty black overall with white bill & forehead shield, red eye. Big grey legs w. lobed toes.
Noisy. When taking off runs across the water surface with much splashing. Juvenile has duller bill,
like adult by midwinter. On lakes, rivers, urban wetlands. Feeds on aquatic vegetation.
Dives readily.
