Male: crest & head mostly yellow grading
to white at rear w. orange ear patch.
Female: face & crest grey,
suffused yellow; duller orange ear patch; yellow outer
tail feathers.
Juvenile: like duller female w. pale spots on outer primaries.
Common across inland, seldom far from water, feeds on seeds on ground.
