Notes: Male breeding: violet-blue crown similar in colour to
pointed ear-tufts; deep indigo breast
rufous scapulars; dull blue tail w. narrow white tip; whitish belly. Cf Purple-backed Fairywren
which has black breast & purple mantle. Non-breeding like female but retains black lores & bill;
white to pale blue eye-ring. Female: brown above (darker brown than for PbFw), white below;
dark
rufous lores, eye-ring & bill. Occurs in undergrowth of drier forests, coastal heaths.
